Tech tips - Paper jams
Listed below are several helpful tips when dealing with these problems.
Are you using the correct type of paper?
Paper can be a major factor, is the type of paper you're using designed for use in your machine?
Does the paper appear to be damp?
Damp paper may cause stream feeding or you may find that the paper is hot or creased when it exits the printer.
Have you looked for small pieces of paper that may have torn off or caught inside your machine?
Sometimes when removing paper jams, small pieces of paper can be left behind. Make sure the entire page is removed in one piece.
When you get a paper jam, is the page still partly in the paper tray?
If the paper has not fed correctly into the machine either partly or not at all, the feed rollers may be worn. Cleaning them with a soft damp cloth may help (Allways turn power off and remove the power cord first) If the feed rollers are still not feeding the paper in correctly try fanning the paper this may help.
Were there any abnormal noises ?
Abnormal noises may be caused by many things. Check your printer cartridge is installed correctly. Broken or worn gears may cause abnormal noises. You may need to have your machine looked at by a technician.
Have you been using labels recently in your machine?
Labels can cause many problems, if a label peels off inside the machine it can be difficult to remove. Be careful not to damage any other parts. If the label cannot be removed a service call will be required. When using labels, always make sure there are no label edges that have "turned up" slightly and exposed the adhesive surface.
Always adhere to all safety precautions prior to removing paper jams or any minor maintence. If in doubt call a qualified service centre.
